I used Red Heart 100% acrylic yarn in different shades of red to mimic the streaky meaty patterns found in slices of bacon inspired by the work of Franc Fernandez and Jana Sterbak.
Recently I've had to write an artists statement in which I had to think a lot about my identity as an artist and designer. I wanted to find a way of capturing different moods. I began thinking about everyday routines, ordinary traces of my existance on this planet. As superficial as it may seem I looked to storebrand facewipes in order to capture the changes I experience from day to day.
I scanned the facewipes I've been collecting since the beginning of this month. Dating each face wipe and logging it. The scanning process seemed to transform smudges, blotches and miscoscopic dirt and skin particles into delicate blends of pastel colours that dance across the flimsy textile wipes.
This is definately an on-going project as ideally I'd like to have a year's worth of daily facial rubbings and have them bound in some dusty book that I could keep on my bookshelf.
Below is a link to the collection of facewipe scannings so far on my new Flickr account (I finally have a Flickr!!) Check back often as I'll be continually uploading them.
